Revolut Launches First Non-European Bank in Mexico
Revolut confirmed on Tuesday that it has moved from testing to full banking operations in Mexico, establishing the company’s first licensed bank outside Europe. The rollout follows local approvals and the completion of pilot services, positioning Revolut to offer deposit, payment and lending features directly under a Mexican banking license.
The move matters for both digital banking and crypto adoption in Mexico: a local bank license can ease regulatory hurdles, support peso-denominated accounts and improve on-ramps for crypto and cross-border payments. For consumers, it could mean faster remittances and broader access to Revolut’s financial products; for the market, it intensifies competition with domestic banks and fintechs as global players expand into Latin America.
