Circle Urges UK to Blend MiCA Clarity With US Stablecoin Framework

Published at 2026-03-18 14:30:28

Speaking to the House of Lords committee, Circle's Dante Disparte argued the UK is uniquely positioned to marry the strongest elements of the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework with the US GENIUS Act. He framed the proposal as a practical way to deliver clearer legal certainty for issuers and users of fiat-backed stablecoins such as USDC while preserving consumer protections and market integrity. If adopted, a hybrid approach could make the UK a more attractive jurisdiction for stablecoin issuance and crypto innovation by aligning cross-border compliance expectations. Disparte's pitch echoes broader industry calls for interoperable rules that support stability and competition; lawmakers will now weigh how to balance openness with prudential safeguards as they shape the next phase of UK crypto policy.
