Tether, Opera Team Up to Bring USDT and Gold to Millions via MiniPay
Tether and Opera have teamed up to add USDT and tokenized gold to Opera’s MiniPay wallet, the companies said Monday. MiniPay — embedded in Opera’s browser and apps and now past 12.6 million activations — will let users hold, send and receive Tether and gold-backed digital assets natively, targeting regions where mobile-first payments and remittances are growing fast. The rollout focuses on everyday use cases such as peer-to-peer transfers, merchant payments and simple savings in a stable asset.
The partnership could accelerate stablecoin adoption by reducing onboarding friction through a familiar browser wallet and leveraging Tether’s liquidity. For users this promises cheaper, faster cross-border transfers and an additional store-of-value option via tokenized gold; for merchants and remittance corridors it may lower costs and expand acceptance. Regulatory oversight and compliance will be important as volumes scale, but the integration marks a practical step toward mainstream crypto payments in underserved markets.
