Ripple partners with SBI Digital Markets to push XRP as a yield asset in Asia
Ripple has designated SBI Digital Markets — a MAS-regulated subsidiary — as its institutional custodian for assets in Asia, with segregated custody for client holdings. The arrangement aims to underpin new institutional products that treat XRP as a yield-generating instrument through custody-backed services such as lending, interest accounts and approved liquidity programs rather than native protocol staking.
The step strengthens trust for institutional investors by combining Singapore’s regulatory oversight with bank-grade custody, which could help channel more institutional capital into XRP-based products across Asia. It matters because regulated custody and clear product structures are often prerequisites for large-scale institutional adoption; however, market participants will still watch for product terms, counterparty risk and regulatory developments before committing sizable flows.
