Hyperliquid Launches First Official S&P 500 Perpetual

Published at 2026-03-18 15:00:34

Hyperliquid has rolled out the market's first official S&P 500 perpetual contract, bringing a core traditional benchmark into decentralized finance and allowing continuous, round‑the‑clock access to index exposure. The contract debuts on the Hyperliquid platform under its HYPE ecosystem and is positioned to let traders take long or short exposure to the S&P 500 outside U.S. market hours.

The launch could narrow spreads and unlock new hedging and arbitrage flows between on‑chain derivatives and off‑chain spot markets, attracting both retail and professional liquidity to DeFi. At the same time, it highlights operational questions around price feeds, custody and regulatory oversight as established benchmarks migrate on‑chain, making this a development that traders and platforms will be watching closely.
