Ripple eyes April for Australian license through acquisition
Ripple’s APAC managing director Fiona Murray told reporters that institutional interest in Australia has grown strong enough to justify the expense of obtaining an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL). The company is targeting April to secure the licence and is considering acquiring an existing AFSL holder as a faster route to market, rather than building approval from scratch. Securing an AFSL would allow Ripple to offer a broader range of regulated services to Australian institutions and payment providers, potentially improving on‑ramps for fiat-to-crypto flows and increasing demand for XRP as a liquidity tool. The timeline and acquisition approach signal a pragmatic push to solidify Ripple’s regional presence and respond to rising institutional appetite in the Australian market.
