Bermuda Partners With Coinbase and Circle to Build Fully Onchain Economy

Published at 2026-01-19 21:30:07

Bermuda announced a collaboration with Coinbase and Circle to design a fully on-chain economy, building on the island’s comprehensive crypto regulatory framework introduced in 2018. Under the agreement, Coinbase’s infrastructure and Circle’s stablecoin capabilities (notably USDC) will be used to pilot on-chain payments, settlements, and public-private digital asset initiatives aimed at both residents and business services.

The partnership signals Bermuda’s continued push to be a testbed for regulated crypto adoption and could accelerate real-world blockchain use cases like faster cross-border payments, tokenized services, and streamlined compliance. It also sets up a potential model for other jurisdictions seeking to combine clear rules with private-sector infrastructure, though implementation will be watched closely for AML/KYC, stablecoin oversight, and interoperability challenges.
