Colombia's DIAN Requires Crypto Firms to Report Transaction Data

Published at 2026-01-09 07:30:12

Colombia’s tax and customs authority, DIAN (Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales), has issued Resolution 000240 requiring cryptocurrency service providers to report transaction data to the agency. The rule extends formal reporting obligations to exchanges, custodians and other crypto businesses operating in Colombia, marking a new phase of regulatory scrutiny and standardized data flows between providers and the tax authority.

DIAN frames the measure as a step to strengthen transparency, improve tax collection and support anti‑money‑laundering efforts. For providers, it will mean updating compliance systems, data‑sharing processes and customer due‑diligence practices; for users, the change could increase formalization of crypto activity while prompting debate about operational costs and privacy safeguards as the industry adapts.
