Coinbase Suspends USDC Fiat Services in Argentina

Published at 2026-01-04 13:45:07

Coinbase has suspended its direct fiat connections for USDC in Argentina as of January 4, 2026, effectively disabling local bank and card on-ramps and off-ramps for the dollar-pegged token. The change means users can no longer move Argentine pesos directly to and from USDC on Coinbase via local payment rails, restricting the exchange’s straightforward fiat corridors in the country.

The pause matters because many Argentines rely on dollar-pegged stablecoins to preserve savings and send remittances amid persistent triple-digit inflation. With Coinbase’s fiat paths closed, users are likely to turn to P2P trading, alternative stablecoins or local crypto services, which can raise costs, increase settlement friction and push activity onto less-regulated channels. Coinbase has not provided a detailed public explanation for the disruption, leaving local liquidity and pricing to adjust in the near term.
