Mastercard Teams With Polygon to Replace Wallet Addresses with Nicknames

Published at 2025-11-19 00:15:41

On Nov. 18, 2025 Mastercard said it is partnering with Polygon to roll out human-friendly wallet nicknames that hide long, error-prone addresses behind memorable identifiers. The feature will let users pick customizable names that map to on-chain addresses, simplifying peer-to-peer transfers and merchant checkouts and lowering the technical barrier for mainstream users.

The integration could accelerate on- and off-ramp adoption and benefit the Polygon ecosystem and token flows (MATIC, POL) by making wallet interactions less intimidating. Wider impact will depend on fast adoption by wallets, exchanges and merchants, plus standards for security and interoperability — but the move tackles one of crypto’s most persistent UX complaints and could make everyday payments feel closer to traditional card rails.
