Hedera Integrates WBTC to Unlock Bitcoin DeFi for Users

Published at 2025-11-14 01:16:13

Hedera Foundation announced a partnership with BitGo and LayerZero to integrate Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) on the Hedera network. BitGo, the custodian behind WBTC, will provide the custody framework while LayerZero supplies the cross-chain messaging layer to move BTC liquidity into Hedera’s smart-contract environment. The rollout aims to make Bitcoin liquidity accessible to dApps and protocols building on HBAR.

This move could broaden DeFi activity on Hedera by enabling BTC holders to participate in lending, AMMs, and yield strategies without leaving the network. It also raises usual cross-chain and custodial considerations: users and developers should weigh LayerZero messaging risks and custody assumptions tied to BitGo. If adoption follows, the integration may meaningfully increase capital flows and composability between Bitcoin and Hedera ecosystems.
