Crypto Venture Capital Investment Trends in Q2 2025: Decline and Shift Towards Mining – cover image

In the second quarter of 2025, venture capital investment in the crypto space experienced a notable decline, dropping 59% quarter-over-quarter to $1.97 billion. The number of deals also shrunk by 15%, totaling 378 transactions compared to the previous quarter. This shift is partially attributable to the exceptionally large $2 billion investment Binance received from MGX, a sovereign-connected fund from the UAE, in Q1, which inflated those early-year figures.

Despite the downturn, the distribution of investments reveals interesting trends. More than half (52%) of the capital went to later-stage companies, signaling growing maturity in the sector. Mining firms have particularly caught investors' attention, with cloud-mining company XY Miners securing $300 million – mining accounted for over 20% of all capital this quarter. This movement aligns with increased interest in mining operations connected to AI demands.

Other sectors like privacy/security and infrastructure raised more than $200 million, underscoring ongoing concerns about data protection and blockchain robustness.

Geographically, the U.S. continues to dominate crypto venture funding, contributing 47.8% of total capital and representing 41.2% of deals. The UK follows with 22.9% of capital, while Japan and Singapore account for 4.3% and 3.6%, respectively.

Investors also demonstrated confidence in the future by allocating $1.76 billion to 21 new crypto venture funds, indicating ongoing appetite for innovation despite the softening market. Pre-seed deals have shown a slight increase, suggesting early-stage projects are still attracting capital as the market matures.
