BMO to Launch Tokenized Cash Platform with CME Group and Google Cloud

Published at 2026-03-24 12:30:58

Bank of Montreal (BMO) said Tuesday it will introduce tokenized cash services in partnership with CME Group and Google Cloud to address rising demand for real-time payments as global markets move toward around-the-clock trading. BMO frames the effort as a way to modernize settlement rails and offer institutional clients digital-cash capabilities that can integrate with trading and clearing workflows. For the bank, the initiative represents a step toward reducing reliance on legacy payment systems and delivering intraday liquidity solutions.

CME Group brings market infrastructure and clearing expertise while Google Cloud supplies scalable, resilient cloud services — a combination intended to speed settlement, lower settlement risk, and improve liquidity management. The partnership underscores a broader industry push to bridge traditional finance and digital-asset ecosystems; its ultimate impact will depend on regulatory clarity and uptake by institutional participants and counterparties.
