Feds Seek Permanent Seizure of $3.4M in Stolen Tether
Federal authorities in Boston have filed a motion asking a court to permanently seize more than $3.4 million in Tether (USDT) that they say was stolen from victims of a sophisticated online investment scam, U.S. Attorney Leah B. said. The request, filed Wednesday, targets crypto wallets connected to the scheme and asks the court to convert the digital assets into forfeited proceeds available for restitution.
If granted, the forfeiture would be another example of prosecutors using civil seizure powers to recover crypto tied to fraud, underscoring ongoing federal efforts to trace and reclaim illicit digital assets. Court approval is required and victims’ recovery remains uncertain, but the case highlights both blockchain traceability and the legal frameworks authorities are deploying against crypto-enabled scams.
