Paraguay to Mine Bitcoin Using Seized ASICs in State Pilot
ANDE, Paraguay’s state-owned power utility, has launched a pilot program with AI and mining firm Morphware to repurpose a portion of confiscated ASIC mining equipment for bitcoin production. ANDE President Félix Sosa said the mined bitcoin will be sold and used as a hedge against the utility’s futures contracts, turning seized hardware into a potential revenue stream rather than letting it sit idle.
The move signals a pragmatic, state-led approach to managing seized crypto assets and could set a precedent for public-sector involvement in mining. Beyond immediate revenue and hedging benefits, the pilot raises questions about energy allocation, asset stewardship and regulatory oversight as governments explore ways to monetize confiscated technology. Market watchers will be watching how much BTC the program generates and whether similar models appear elsewhere.
