X to Flag Paid Posts and Ban Crypto Ads in EU and UK

Published at 2026-03-02 00:45:06

X announced it will start labeling sponsored content with a “paid promotions” tag and will prohibit crypto ads in the European Union and United Kingdom. The change aims to make commercial relationships clearer to users while restricting paid crypto promotion in two major markets. Former X head of product Nikita Bier described the label as designed to encourage creators to build businesses on the platform and ensure transparency with their audiences.

The move matters for both creators and crypto advertisers: creators may gain clearer monetization signals and audience trust, but crypto projects and marketers lose paid-access to EU and UK audiences on X. The ban narrows promotional channels for crypto firms that rely on social ads and could push them toward alternative platforms or organic strategies while X tries to balance creator incentives and content transparency.
