NVIDIA Unveils Spectrum‑X Ethernet Photonics for AI Factories
NVIDIA unveiled Spectrum‑X Ethernet Photonics, a co‑packaged optics solution intended to accelerate so‑called AI factories by bringing optical components closer to switch silicon. The company says the design increases bandwidth density and reduces power per bit versus traditional electrical interconnects, addressing thermal and power bottlenecks that hinder large‑scale training and inference deployments.
By shortening signal paths and improving energy efficiency, Spectrum‑X could lower operating costs and enable denser GPU and network fabrics. That matters for hyperscalers, cloud hosts and providers of AI‑driven services — including firms that run crypto analytics and trading systems — because better interconnects make it easier to scale models and datasets without linear increases in power or floor space.
