World App Pilots Virtual USDC Payroll Accounts in U.S.

World App, the gateway to Sam Altman’s World blockchain network, has started testing virtual bank accounts in the U.S., offering users a new on-ramp to link day-to-day finances directly with crypto. The pilot focuses on payroll-style accounts denominated in USDC, enabling a more native flow between fiat-like balances and blockchain-based payments while remaining positioned as a consumer-facing banking bridge.

The move matters because it could lower friction for wage disbursements, remittances and everyday spending in stablecoins, and accelerate mainstream utility for USDC inside a consumer wallet. As a pilot, the program may expand or evolve with regulatory and banking partners; successful scaling would mark a notable step toward tighter fiat-crypto rails and broader adoption of blockchain-native financial services.
