VALR and Mukuru Launch USDC Wallet Inside WhatsApp

Published at 2025-11-17 23:00:57

South African crypto exchange VALR and financial services platform Mukuru have rolled out a USDC (USD Coin) wallet that operates inside WhatsApp, letting users hold, send and receive digital dollars without leaving the messaging app. The integration connects USDC to Mukuru’s existing payment rails to enable on‑ and off‑ramps for consumer transfers, merchant payments and cross‑border remittances, leveraging WhatsApp’s wide reach across the continent.

The move could reduce friction and costs for everyday crypto payments and help onboard users who prefer familiar apps over standalone wallets, supporting broader stablecoin adoption in African payment corridors. While the initiative is viewed positively for financial inclusion, its impact will hinge on user experience, liquidity and adherence to local regulatory and compliance requirements as the service scales.
