Interactive Brokers Adds Stablecoin Funding for Brokerage Accounts

Published at 2026-01-15 23:30:24

Interactive Brokers has rolled out the ability for eligible clients to fund brokerage accounts using stablecoins, naming USD Coin (USDC) and PYUSD among supported tokens. The change lets users transfer dollar-pegged crypto directly into brokerage accounts rather than converting to bank fiat first, a move that can shorten settlement times and reduce traditional banking friction for deposits.

The update matters because it widens on‑ and off‑ramps between crypto and traditional brokerage services, potentially lowering costs for active traders and crypto holders. It also raises questions about custody, compliance and customer eligibility as regulators continue to scrutinize stablecoin use. For retail and institutional clients who already hold USDC or PYUSD, the feature could make Interactive Brokers a more convenient bridge between crypto wallets and securities trading.
