Cypherpunk Launches Zcash Treasury With $50M Backing

Published at 2025-11-13 13:41:05

Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, announced the launch of Cypherpunk, a vehicle funded with more than $50 million from Winklevoss Capital to accumulate Zcash (ZEC) as a privacy- and self‑sovereignty‑focused treasury asset. The firm said it currently holds 203,775 ZEC and intends to continue building exposure to the privacy coin as part of its balance-sheet strategy.

The announcement matters because it signals institutional appetite for privacy-centric assets and could support additional demand for ZEC, even as privacy coins face heightened regulatory scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions. Market observers say the move fits a broader trend of corporates diversifying beyond BTC and ETH, but regulators and exchanges will likely watch closely for policy and compliance implications that could influence price and adoption.
