Vitalik Buterin says native smart accounts (a.k.a. account abstraction) are expected to arrive within a year as part of Ethereum's Hegota upgrade and EIP-8141. He adds this will enable new ways to interact with the blockchain and reduce reliance on intermediaries - a core element of his "non-ugly cypherpunk Ethereum" vision.
