Cash App Adds Bitcoin Lightning and Stablecoin Payments

Published at 2025-11-13 23:14:47

Block’s Cash App announced an update that lets users pay in bitcoin using the Lightning Network and accepts stablecoin payments, bringing faster, lower-fee BTC transfers and fiat-pegged crypto options into its payments stack. By routing bitcoin over Lightning, Cash App can support near-instant peer-to-peer and merchant transactions with smaller fees than on-chain BTC settlements, while stablecoins offer a less volatile medium for value transfer.

The change could accelerate mainstream crypto payments by leveraging Cash App’s large user base and merchant integrations, boosting on-ramps to both Bitcoin’s second-layer ecosystem and stablecoin rails. Users should review in-app controls, custody and conversion details before transacting, but the update marks a notable step toward making crypto a practical option for everyday purchases and micropayments.
