Coinbase’s Base moves off Optimism’s OP Stack to a new unified in-house architecture

Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2 that launched in 2023, is moving away from Optimism’s OP Stack toward a single, proprietary stack operated by Base to speed upgrades, increase autonomy and scalability, and is targeting about six hard forks per year.
